Pinterest Project: Coconut Lime Sugar Scrub!

IMG_3104

Today is Mother’s Day!  Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there!  I was thinking all week about what I could do for the moms and grandmas in our family for Mother’s Day.  I always love making gifts if I can, and I specifically wanted to do something that my 21 month old daughter, C, could help with, too.

I came across this pin on Pinterest for Coconut Lime Sugar Scrub and I knew I had to try it!  Simple enough for C to help me, and in a nice jar, would make a wonderful, homemade Mother’s Day gift.  I tweaked the original recipe and I’m so happy with how it turned out!

I gathered the ingredients and within 30 minutes, even with a rambunctious toddler helping, made 4 jars of Coconut Lime Sugar Scrub!  I’m actually going to go back to the store to get more jars because I want to make one for myself and a few others as gifts for the future!  I tweaked the original recipe and I’m so happy with how it turned out!  The scrub helps smooth out your skin, while the coconut oil moisturizes even after rinsing it away.  And it smells delicious!

Coconut Lime Sugar Scrub

(Makes 1 Cup of Scrub)

1/4 cup coconut oil, melted

1 cup sugar

Lime Essential Oil (to desired fragrance)

Melt coconut oil.  Stir in sugar until completely incorporated.  Add Lime Essential Oil until you reach the desired scent.  Enjoy!

Note: The original recipe called for 6-8 drops of Lime Essential Oil, but I used probably 2-3 times that amount to get the desired scent I wanted.  It also called for 1 tablespoon of shredded coconut, which I was going to use, but the store I went to only had sweetened coconut and I didn’t want to use that.  I actually really like how the recipe turned out without it, so I probably won’t bother with it in the future.

I called Whole Foods and PCC to try and find Lime Essential Oil, but neither had it.  The lady I talked to at PCC recommended a local wellness shop, and that’s where I found the Lime Essential Oil.  Although, I highly recommend buying it on Amazon, as it was nearly twice as much at the local shop!

I used candle jars because I liked the shape and especially liked the way that the lid seals so nicely, but you can use any type of jar you like.  A Mason jar would be nice with a ribbon around it and a little gift tag!

For labeling, I used the printable labels provided by the website where I found the original recipe (not pictured).  They worked out great, but I didn’t get a picture before giving them away to the moms and grandmas in our family!
