Thrifty Family Finds is 1 year old! Yay! I know that when I started TFF a year ago, I really had no idea if anyone would even read it and to see where it’s at now, I’m amazed! A friend of mine was having a baby last fall and I wanted to make her a diaper cake for her shower. I looked at tons of really detailed diaper cake tutorials online, and realized it didn’t have to be that complicated. So here’s my super easy Diaper Cake tutorial – I didn’t even take photos of each step because it’s that easy 🙂
Here’s what you’ll need:– 1-2 packs of diapers – the exact number really depends on the size of the diapers and the size you want the diaper cake. I used a little less than 1 pack of Honest Company Size 2 Diapers for this cake (which has 40 diapers in it). I used the dinosaur print diapers because dinosaurs have special meaning for her and her family.– Large rubber bands– Ribbon– Some sort of “cake topper.” I used a dinosaur cookie cutter.For each layer, lay the diapers one on top of the other in a line of the floor or table, slightly staggered. It doesn’t have to be a precise number or anything, as you’ll add more in later.Roll the line of diapers as tightly as you can without letting them loosen, and secure a rubber band around the outside to hold them together. Add diapers into “holes” to even out the layer until it’s to your desired fullness. Tie a ribbon around the outside for decoration. Repeat these steps on a smaller scale for the top tier. Stack the tiers. You can use a toilet paper or paper towel tube for the center if you like, but I simply tied a ribbon to the cookie cutter and laced it down through the center and tied it off at the bottom. That’s it. So simple!
