I would be lost without my cell phone. Anyone else feel this way?
We don’t have a home phone, so my cell phone is my lifeline, especially in cases of emergency. But beyond that, it makes life easier in a lot of ways.
This is Week 1 of a series on smartphone apps that make life easier, whether that is through simplification, saving time, saving money, making money, etc. Some you may already be familiar with, but others might be new to you. And I’d love to hear what your favorites are in the comments section!
This first app I’m going to highlight has saved me a ton of money. Most of us have used Craigslist at one point or another, right? I love Craigslist. But I hate finding exactly what you’re looking for and finding out you weren’t the first person to get to it. How disappointing, right? I’ve been disappointed many times.
However, I found a free app in the Google Play store for Android that has saved me a lot of disappointment and saves me money as well. It is called Notifications for Craigslist by MLABS. The regular free Craigslist apps I’ve downloaded before have worked fine for browsing, but wouldn’t allow me to set up notifications for searches I wanted to remain active. Notifications for Craigslist was exactly what I was looking for. I can set up many different searches at the same time, and when a new listing is posted with my search criteria, the app alerts me directly on my phone. I can then email the seller directly from my phone! This has helped me be first in line for a lot of items we’ve needed, but didn’t want to pay full price for.
Recently, I was searching for a specific double stroller on Craigslist. Many of you know that I’m pregnant with our second, and although I love the design of a lot of the modern double strollers, I wasn’t about to plunk down $800 on a stroller system! One morning, I had set up a meeting to see a potential stroller later that evening when the Notifications for Craiglist App alerted me to another posting that had just gone up. It was for a newer, better model stroller than I had been looking for, with more accessories and for a much cheaper price. I was able to email directly from my phone, go over to check it out and ended up purchasing it. Of course, if something like this happens, always be courteous and notify the seller you were planning on meeting with to let them no you are no longer interested, so they can move on to the next interested party!
Now this app isn’t available for the iPhone, so if that’s what you have, I’ve read that the app with notifications is the Craigslist Pro+, which costs $1.99 in the App store. That really isn’t a lot to pay for something that could save you a lot of money in the long run, so if you don’t have an Android phone to get this free app, you still might consider purchasing Craigslist Pro+.
Now, I want to hear what your favorite smartphone apps are!
